Financial Security: A panel discussion

Women Stepping Up will focus on Financial Security in a free online panel discussion at noon on Wednesday, March 30. This continues the celebration of the 100th anniversary (plus two years) of the ratification of the 19th Amendment guaranteeing women the right to vote. In addition to celebrating the past, we look to the future and say, “It’s Your Turn.”

Our annual Women’s Equality Day Celebration luncheon has been rescheduled for August 25, 2022, after COVID concerns postponed it for two years. Our guest speaker, Astronaut Mae Jemison, has agreed to reschedule her appearance.

The online series, It’s Our Turn: Stepping Up Together, will be free and broadcast live on Facebook at https://www.facebook.com/steppinguptoequality. A recording also will be available at the same place after the event.

The March 30 panel, Financial Security, will feature four Evansville wealth management planners. They include Teri Hollander Albin and Tricia Hollander Henning, both with Baird Financial Services Company, Melissa Khan with Edward Jones, and Kim Wren with Berger Wealth Services team Baird. Shelley Kirk, WEHT/WTVW anchor, will moderate.

This panel session, in collaboration with YWCA Evansville, will address financial security. Should a career woman consider a prenup? What is considered financial security? When are you most vulnerable? What are the obstacles to building wealth and security? Are there particular challenges women face in establishing financial security?  If I am in a happy marriage, what should I know at a minimum about our finances,?

Teri Hollander Albin

Teri Hollander has counseled individuals and families, not-for-profits, and corporate clients since 1997. Drawing on her corporate as well as family business experience, Hollander provides clients with comprehensive wealth management advice and strategy. She joined Baird following a 10-year consulting and treasury management career.

Hollander received her bachelor’s degree from Indiana University Kelley School of Business and an MBA from the University of Evansville. She also studied at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and is a Registered Investment Advisor Representative.

Hollander was honored in 2005 by the Diocese of Evansville and St. John the Baptist Catholic Parish with the Simon Brute Award for service. Melissa Khan

Melissa Khan is a financial advisor who began with Edward Jones in 2007 shortly after graduating from Southern Illinois University Edwardsville. She became a limited partner in the firm in 2015.

“Coming from a conservative Bangladeshi family, finances were not openly

discussed.” Khan said she didn’t realize exactly how little knowledge her scientist father had about finance until she asked him about his own retirement plan.

“He admitted that he was always overwhelmed, avoided the subject, and wished he had been approached by someone to help during his early savings years.”

Khan thinks of her father when she works with clients. “A focus on education is important.” She said it is an honor to get to know clients at such a personal time.

Khan is originally from Central Illinois. When she moved to the Evansville area in 2008, she met her husband, Zach, an Evansville native who also works in finance. They love cooking and travel so much they have a world map and a bucket list to work through.

Kim Wren is a financial advisor with the Berger Wealth Services team Baird. She focuses on helping clients overcome their unique challenges.

A former music teacher, Wren remains active in the arts community in Evansville, performing with various groups and serving on her church’s worship team.
