Women’s Equality Centennial Celebration postponed

EVANSVILLE, IN – The Women’s Equality Centennial Celebration will be postponed.
The luncheon planned for August 26, 2021, will be rescheduled for 2022.

Guest speaker Dr. Mae C. Jemison and the Women’s Equality Centennial Celebration Committee have postponed the celebration because of concern for the safety of our audience and the students who were scheduled to meet with Jemison on Thursday morning.

Rather than conduct a virtual appearance, the committee and Dr. Jemison plan to reschedule once again so the Evansville area can meet and hear her in person. The luncheon was originally scheduled for 2020 but was postponed. The increasing number of Covid cases in Vanderburgh County prompted the decision. A date for 2022 has not been determined and will be based on the status the virus.

Tickets purchased will not be refunded but will be honored for the 2022 luncheon when it is rescheduled. We ask you to continue to support our sponsors.

Dr. Jemison, an astronaut, engineer and physician, was the first woman of color to travel in space.

Women’s Equality Day celebrates the passage of 19th Amendment and women earning the right to vote. Evansville and all Indiana women joined others in the nation at the polls in November of 1920. Stepping Up, in collaboration with the YWCA, will continue celebrate women’s suffrage at an annual luncheon.

Meanwhile, Stepping Up will continue to work to serve and encourage women with online panel discussions.

Upcoming online panel discussions include:

In September, the topic is Engineering Opportunities in Math and Science

In November, we will address Ready Next Time: Lessons Learned from a Pandemic.
