Dr. Ying Shang is the first female Dean of the College of Engineering and Computer Science at the University of Evansville (UE).  Since she began her tenure as the engineering dean at UE in August 2018, she has built strong industrial and academic partnerships, launched the Master of Engineering program, established international partnerships with India and China, built an additional revenue model for the college through industrial sponsored projects, launched technology transfer and commercialization engine, instituted First Robotics scholarships and UE Collegiate Robotic Football Conference team, improved philanthropy for the new student project building, faculty development fund, student scholarships, and outreach activities, and enhanced the diversity and inclusion of the University.

Dr. Ying Shang was the department chair of Electrical and Computer Engineering at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville (SIUE) prior to joining UE. During Shang’s term as the department chair at SIUE, she fostered faculty growth in teaching and research, improved communication, secured ABET accreditation, established industrial partnerships, and created Metropolitan Accelerator Research Square to help economic development in Southern Illinois. Shang also served as faculty advisor for the Society of Women Engineers Student Chapter at SIUE from 2007 to 2013 and initiated the first annual Introduce a Girl to Engineering event at the university in 2013 which recruits 300 middle school students annually. 

Dr. Ying Shang earned her PhD and MS degrees in electrical engineering from the University of Notre Dame, and her BS in control engineering from Shandong University in China. Her research areas include discrete-event systems, max-plus linear systems, and hybrid systems with applications in queueing networks, manufacturing systems, and transportation networks.
