Celebrate the Women’s Vote Centennial with Women’s Equality Day

EVANSVILLE, IN – Women’s Equality Centennial Celebration was postponed one year due to the pandemic. The good news is that astronaut Dr. Mae C. Jemison has agreed to be the guest speaker for the 2021 Women’s Suffrage Celebration.

Meanwhile we celebrated the 100th year anniversary of the ratification of the 19th Amendment with a panel discussion, “What’s Next?” The panel discussion was recorded in August and is still available on Facebook: https://www.facebook.com/WomensEqualityEvansville/videos/337412180775542

Stepping Up and the Women’s Equality Day Committee are eager to help unite the community to battle the pandemic and celebrate all those on the front lines of our community’s response.

We are excited that Dr. Jemison was willing to postpone her visit to Evansville for one year and she will speak in August of 2021. She is an American astronaut, engineer, and physician who became the first African-American woman to be admitted into NASA’s astronaut training program and travel in space. She served as a mission specialist on the Space Shuttle Endeavour and orbited the earth for almost eight days in 1992.

As Dr. Jemison helps us look to the future and continues to advocate for equality, there are other ways to celebrate this historic year.

Look to the Stepping Up and Women’s Equality Facebook pages for the date of the 2021 Equality luncheon and for more details about how you can celebrate this historic year virtually.

Those who have purchased tickets should contact SteppingupEvv@gmail.com for more information. Sponsors’ donations will be held and used for next year’s event.

Meanwhile please celebrate the women who have participated in the Stepping Up and WNIN video project “Celebrating the Women’s Vote Centennial.” Stepping Up would love to hear your stories as well and will make a way for you to submit a video.

We continue to seek support for the 2021 celebration. Join our efforts at SteppingUpEvv.com.
